Propolis is a resinous substance of brown color and a strongly aromatic smell, which bees collect from the buds and bark of some plants. It is therefore of purely vegetable origin even if the bees after harvesting process it by adding wax, pollen and enzymes produced by their own body. The name derives from the Greek πρόπολις, composed of πρό pró "in front" and πόλις pólis "city", or "defender of the city". In fact, bees use it to defend the hive from the dangers that can threaten it, such as diseases and predators, but above all to sterilize the cells that must deposit their eggs precisely because of the antiseptic action. In hydroalcoholic solution it is excellent for inflammation of the oral cavity, gastrointestinal, and to relieve seasonal flu symptoms.
The mother tincture of Propolis is obtained by cold maceration of propolis in a solution composed of water and alcohol to extract all the properties of this natural resin collected from bees. Propolis in hydroalcoholic solution is suitable for inflammation of the oral cavity such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, gingivitis, dental abscesses, canker sores, to relieve the symptoms of flu and colds, but it is also excellent for inflammation of the digestive and urinary cavity, colitis, cystitis and prostatitis. Finally, it can be used to combat fungi and skin viruses such as herpes simplex, dermatitis, psoriasis, burns and insect bites.
